Tel Aviv-based Vodio Labs launched their personalized video discovery app earlier this year on iPad. Over two million video views later, the company today launches Vodio for iPhone, bringing their video discovery platform to all iOS devices.
Vodio purportedly uses the knowledge of the crowds you mix with on the social web, paired with your personal tastes and interests, to serve up videos you’ll love. You can watch channels of videos from a wide field of interests, including entertainment, tech, sports, music, viral videos and more and easily scroll through to watch and share the top videos in each category. Thumbs upping and thumbs downing videos will personalize your recommendations even further.
Jonathan Messika, CEO of Vodio, says, “Our main goal for Vodio was to provide the best video watching experience possible on any mobile, touch-based device. We’ve taken the same killer experience from the iPad app and brought it now to the iPhone. It’s simple, smart, and it transforms watching and discovering videos on an iPhone to a whole new level.”
Check out the video below to get an idea of how Vodio works. The video features the iPad app, but the iPhone app works in the same way (just on a smaller screen).
A press release explains that, “The app gives users an easy way to discover new videos while also employing a smart system to find and organize videos from across the huge ocean of content on the web. But Vodio goes beyond displaying videos based merely on their tags or labels. It personalizes video selections based on user behavior within the system and on connecting social networks to provide more accurate video categorization and recommendations.”
In addition to launching out the iPhone app, Vodio has also rolled out a new ‘Highlights’ channel that pulls the videos from all your channels that you are most likely to enjoy into one place. Personally, I’m a huge fan of the YouTube and Viral channels. Download the free app here and check it out for yourself and let us know which channels you like best!
