In the past year or two photo and video-friendly social networks such as Instagram, Pinterest and Vine have exploded in popularity. Five tweets in every second contain a Vine link, and Twitter revamped its entire timeline and profile page design to better incorporate images and even animated GIFs.
All of which begs the question: is visual content the future of social media?
In a nutshell: yes. Our brains process images 60,000 times faster than text, and as bandwidth capacity and download speeds continue to increase online, bigger, better and exponentially more exciting visual content will inevitably follow.
