There’s been some speculation, mostly by Gawker, that the tweets in Jimmy Kimmel Live’s “Mean Tweets” segment are not real. That’s probably the case, but I don’t see why it matters. The segments are consistantly funny, and the celebrities that appear in the segment seem to take it all in stride. (Otherwise, why would they be doing a segment like this in the first place, you know?)
The authenticity of tweets, especially when they’re co-opted by the media, is a pretty serious issue. One we’re going to explore further here at SocialTimes, but for now, we figure you should start the day off right with a quick laugh you can share with your friends. Think of our site like Breaking Bad, we’re going to go to some dark places in investigating the social web, so we need some comedic relief to break up the tension.
And what better way to do that then to watch Katy Perry, Selena Gomez, Kid Rock, and others, have their feelings hurt? Ok. We’re kind of kidding, but still!
