VEVO Launches Awards Program To Recognize Most-Viewed Music Videos

By Megan O'Neill

Today VEVO has unveiled a brand new awards program that will recognize the most-viewed music videos on the site and the artists behind them.  The program, called CERTIFIED, honors videos with over 100 million views and launches this month with initial honorees Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, LMFAO and Selena Gomez.

CERTIFIED Award winners “will be honored with a full rollout of exclusive, original programming premiering on VEVO beginning in June.”  VEVO CERTIFIED programming kicks off with Justin Bieber, who wins the award for “Baby,” “Never Say Never,” “One Time,” “Somebody To Love,” “Never Let You Go,” “One Less Lonely Girl,” “Love Me,” and “Mistletoe,” on June 12;  Katy Perry will be honored for “Firework,” “ET,” “Last Friday Night,” and “Teenage Dream” on June 25;  LMFAO will be honored with exclusive programming on July 9 for “Party Rock Anthem” and “Sexy and I Know It;” and Selena Gomez will be honored on July 23 for “Naturally,” “Who Says,” “Love You Like a Love Song” and “A Year Without Rain.”

According to a press release, “VEVO’s video view counts represent the only definitive and official metric across all digital platforms because of its far-reaching scale and reach, which includes online, mobile and tablet, connected devices and syndication partner sites like AOL, Facebook, Yahoo! Music and YouTube.  Videos ‘CERTIFIED’ by VEVO have achieved a similar milestone to that of the RIAA’s Gold and Platinum certification for audio.”

Doug McVehil, Senior VP, Programming, Talent & Content Operations at VEVO, says, “Because a video would never reach 100M views without the fans, we wanted CERTIFIED to celebrate the viewers that help artists achieve this milestone.  CERTIFIED salutes the fans as much as it honors music videos and the artist who made them.”  For this reason, each CERTIFIED series saluting an artist will feature one CERTIFIED Ultimate Fan as well.  Ultimate Fans will be recruited by VEVO on Facebook and Twitter and the winner will present the award to his or her favorite artist.
