Facebook page administrators can now create unpublished posts, also known as dark posts, directly via the social network’s page composer.

Unpublished posts are posts that do not appear on pagesTimelines or users’ News Feeds, but can be promoted with ads on the social network anyway, allowing brands to show more relevant content, such as a sporting goods company being able to target fans of specific sports with products related to those sports.

Sister blog Inside Facebook reported on the ability to create unpublished posts via page composer, adding that once page admins click the clock icon for scheduling posts and choose a year, the option to “hide from News Feed” appears.

Inside Facebook pointed out that page admins were previously only able to create unpublished posts via Facebook’s self-serve ad-creation tool, Power Editor, or ads application-programming interface.
