Twitter Wins "Tweet" Trademark

It’s taken over 5 years, but Twitter is finally the trademark holder of the word “tweet”. The company settled a lawsuit against a Twitter-based advertising company this week, which will transfer the copyright of the word “tweet” to Twitter.

As reported in the Wall Street Journal, Twitter and Twittad – the advertising company which had previously trademarked “tweet” through its tag line “Let your ad meet tweets” – came to an agreement on Monday.

Twittad’s CEO James Eliason explained that Twitter had agreed to drop the lawsuit against his company in exchange for Twittad transferring its registered trademark of the word “tweet” to Twitter.
