Twitter Killed the Favorite Star

The action, formerly known as a favorite, will be called a like.

Twitter lost a little bit of star power Tuesday, as the company has replaced its star-shaped favorite button with a heart, similar to its Periscope platform. Hearts will replace stars on both Twitter and Vine.

The action will be called a like, Twitter said in a blog post by product manager Akarshan Kumar:

We are changing our star icon for favorites to a heart and we’ll be calling them likes. We want to make Twitter easier and more rewarding to use, and we know that at times the star could be confusing, especially to newcomers.
