Twitter has started sending visual prompts to top users on the social platform to encourage them stop using Instagram to share links to images, and use Twitter’s internal imager sharer instead.
First spotted by Mashable, the pop-ups show how links to Instagram don’t show the image on Twitter, whereas photos shared on Twitter display automatically within user timelines.

It wasn’t always this way. Instagram images once showed up nicely on Twitter, but back in 2012 the company pulled the plug. Since then, Instagram links shared on Twitter have been text-only. Not that it’s hurt their growth – Instagram recently surpassed Twitter for active users and generates a lot more engagement for brands.

Twitter is clearly worried, even if they want you to think that they don’t care.
