J.J. Hirschle, who directed media and entertainment advertising at Google, is joining the Twitter team starting October 28, reports Bloomberg.
Hirschle’s hire comes well-timed for Twitter’s impending IPO, as the company has been working to boost ad revenue. He will be responsible for selling Twitter’s ad products to retail companies.
Indeed, Twitter disclosed this week that it added 300 employees in the third quarter – the total is now at 2,300 – and news has been breaking left and right about new Twitter Advertising products and features.
Hirschle’s challenge will be to aid Twitter in actually making a profit. And he has a good track record – Google’s 2012 gross revenue was $50.1 billion (more than a million dollars of revenue per employee), compared to Twitter’s loss in 2012 (each Twitter employee ‘lost’ $40,000 overall). Only Zynga had a worse year amongst the top tech firms.
All eyes are on the blue bird as it strives to soar following its hotly anticipated IPO.
