The rumours have been circulating for a while and today Twitter has finally started to roll out group messaging for direct messages.

Previously direct messaging on Twitter was limited to one-to-one conversations, and both users had to be following each other to be able to exchange replies.

The new functionality allows users to start conversations with a group of their followers, and members of that group don’t need to be following each other to participate in the chat.

Groups can be setup with a couple of taps, and you’ll see a notification when you’ve been added to a chat.
