Last night’s GRAMMY awards gathered together the stars of music from around the world, and fans took to Twitter en masse to chat about the evening’s winners and losers, once again illustrating the micro-blogging network’s growing importance as a social television platform.

Some 13.2 million tweets were sent during the East Coast airing of the show, which peaked when Jay-Z accept his award for Best Rap Collaboration.

Jay-Z’s win, a collaboration with Kanye West, Frank Ocean and The Dream, triggered a heady 116,400 tweets per minute (TPM), which was good enough to edge out Rihanna’s solo performance of “Stay” (114,800 TPM) and a rare appearance from Prince to announce the record of the year (109,400 TPM).

Overall, Rihanna was the hottest topic of conversation on Twitter throughout the night, with Twitter ranking the stars as follows, based on their performance, victory or, in some cases, clothing attire.
