Trying to lose weight and failing miserably? Ever consider publicly humiliating yourself as an incentive?
Well, it’s working for some folks, it seems. People are tweeting what they eat and doing this is helping them lose weight – or maybe these are tweets from folks who are already fit and they’re just bragging.

This post on the DailyMail explains the thinking behind tweeting what you eat:
The idea is you tweet every morsel you put in your mouth, so followers can act as a giant, collective conscience, shaming you into being less greedy. [It makes you] think twice before standing in front of the fridge, mindlessly scoffing cheese or chomping through a Twix at my desk ‘to cheer myself up’.
But wouldn’t folks get annoyed if you tweet everything you eat? That’s part of the answer as to why this could work.
By the end of the week, I’d lost a pound and a half. [It’s] like a virtual slimming club, it forces you to confront your secret eating — and you can’t eat too often for fear of boring everyone with updates.
One thing’s for sure, reading through the #tweetwhatyoueat tweets will make you hungry. I’ve been eating nonstop as I write this post.
Maybe it will encourage you to eat the right foods, at the least. And that’s something.
