2 Ways To Seamlessly Tweet From Google Reader Using Buffer

Google Reader has always been one of the most popular article aggregators on the web mainly because it has the good ‘ol Google look and feel that makes it easy to navigate. The online reader also makes managing subscriptions a breeze, and its recommendations for stuff that you might like are spot on. However, one of the biggest things missing from Google Reader is social sharing capabilities. Unless you count Google+, the reader doesn’t have a native feature that lets you post what you’re reading to social networks. For instance, Tweeting an article that you picked up from Google Reader can be cumbersome, because you have to go to the original article and hit the Tweet button from there, instead of doing it all from the reader. Thankfully, the guys at Buffer came up with a couple of ways to solve Google Reader’s social media shortcomings, at least when it comes to Twitter. (For the uninitiated, Buffer is a nifty tool that automatically schedules your tweets at optimal times to ensure that you get the most exposure for your content.) Here’s how you’ll be able to add tweets to Buffer without having to leave Google Reader: Option #1 Use the Buffer Browser Extension Buffer’s browser extension is available for Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Opera. Simply install the add-on to your browser and a Buffer button will automatically be added into Google Reader. The button appears beneath each post and it will allow you to add articles to Buffer right from the reader. Option #2: Google Reader and Buffer Integration If you’re using Internet Explorer or accessing Google Reader using a browser that doesn’t have the Buffer extension, you’ll still be able queue up articles on Buffer by integrating it with Google Reader. Here’s how: Step 1: In Google Reader, head to the Settings icon at the top right corner and click “Reader settings”. Step 2: Click the “Send To” tab Step 3: Scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Create a custom link”. Enter the following information below, and hit save Name: Buffer URL: http://bufferapp.com/add?url=${url}&text=${title} Icon URL: http://bufferapp.com/images/logo_icon_small.png Once you complete these steps, go back to your Google Reader homepage, and you should be able to see Buffer when you click the “Send to” button under each post.
