TV Shows and Music Continue Topping This Week’s Top 20 Facebook Pages

Television shows and musicians once again dominate this week’s list of Top 20 Facebook Pages, compiled by Inside Facebook’s PageData tool, which counts the number of fans added to a Page daily. Lil Wayne 4,791,017 +222,651 +4.87 The rise of obscure and off-season television shows started a few months ago and we’ve hypothesized that the sudden prominence of certain television shows on our list was due to the conversion of profile interests into Page links. Such an explanation explains why shows that have been off the air for years, like “Seinfeld,” have recently made the Top 20 list. Half of the list this week was taken up by Pages belonging to television or cable shows, six were musicians and the remaining four were a mixed bag. Number 1 on the list this week was “Family Guy,” which added 716,000 thousand fans to edge towards eight million at 7.8 million fans. Growth was steady and the Page was promoting a new iPhone application. Rounding out the top 10 TV shows were: “House” at number 3, adding 400,400 fans to grow to 6.3 million in part by promoting new “appisodes” for iPhone/iPad/iPod products, “Lost” in fifth place adding 379,000 to 4.1 million after a much-discussed finale/final episode and “Scrubs” in eight place, adding 325,200 to total 3.7 million. At number 12 was another “House”-related Page, “Dr. House,” which added 266,500 fans to grow to 5.7 million; the Page had no activity since April. Musicians on the list included the number 2 spot, Lady Gaga, whose Page grew by 412,000 fans to 7.8 million; the songstress is currently on tour and has been given lots of media coverage. Justin Bieber, the teen idol, took fourth place with good growth, having just released a new song as part of the soundtrack for a summer movie, adding 379,500 fans to grow to 4.4 million. Linkin Park took number 13, adding 265,100 fans to grow to 5.4 million doing nothing else (it would seem) other than promoting its Haiti charity on Facebook. Taylor Swift, currently on a U.S. tour, saw steady growth by adding 250,400 fans to increase the Page’s base to 4.8 million at take number 14. Metallica, also on a tour, landed number 19 with 222,800 new fans among a total of 4.1 million and then followed rapper Lil Wayne at 20, who has been campaigning for his release from prison resulting in the addition of 222,600 fans to a total of 4.7 million. The addition of some of these musicians to the Top 20 list might also be attributable to the conversion of profile interests to Page connections. A quartet of “other” Pages made the list this week, too, two of them belonging to Facebook. The Facebook Page, number 6, added 354,500 fans to a total of 9.4 million with steady growth and Sports on Facebook followed in seventh place, adding 354,400 fans to pass the 1 million mark, probably in part due to the World Cup and the leaderboard the company launched for soccer/football fans there. Zynga’s Texas Hold’em Poker was number 9 with steady growth and promotions of money pots and virtual goods, adding 318,000 fans to inch towards 19 million fans with 18.8 million. Red Bull energy drink’s Page followed in tenth place, adding about 303,000 fans to surpass 4 million Likes. The rest of the list was made up of TV shows. There was “Los Simpson” at number 11 (the Spanish version of the popular U.S. show), adding 297,700 fans to a base of 2.8 million primarily by promoting re-runs on Facebook. The English version of the Page took number 17, adding 230,500 fans to grow to 1.7 million after last week’s season finale. “Grey’s Anatomy” at number 15, added 236,100 fans to total 4.4 million post-season finale, “South Park” followed at 16, adding 233,400 fans to a base of 5.4 million with steady growth and no recent Wall activity and “Desperate Housewives” at number 18 with no activity post-season finale added 229,000 fans to pass 2 million Facebook fans.
