Tumblr launched an update of its iOS app yesterday that delivers iPad optimization.
Users on iPad have more direct access to Tumblr’s basic content-sharing menu and will see larger photos. All iOS users also gain an explore feature that allows them to explore posts across the platform by tag.
iPad users who select the write icon in the main menu will see a small pop-up version of Tumblr’s multi-colored content-sharing menu. The rest of the content grays out but continues to display. iPhone users who tap the icon see a full-screen version of the same menu.
“There’s a new sidebar navigation, it works in portrait and landscape, we used popovers for a lot of things that previously took up the whole screen (post options, blog selection, tracked tags, sharing options) – all the same functionality as on iPhone but just taking better advantage of the new-found real estate,” said Katherine Barna, a Tumblr spokeswoman.
On Monday, Tumblr delivered its first Android app optimized for tablets.
The blogging platform has been growing quickly, but has experienced some technical snags along the way.
