Tumblr will begin delivering promoted posts to its mobile users as well as its desktop users, the company said today.
“It works very simply: Every now and then you’ll see posts from our partners as you scroll through your mobile Dashboard,” the company said in a blog post. Tumblr’s Dashboard is akin to Facebook’s News Feed.
The move comes a year after the blogging platform first offered promoted posts to desktop users, through the Radar feature that highlights multimedia content on the platform.
To date Tumblr has declined to provide any numbers on how successful promoted posts are for marketers. Today was no different.
“Our fashion, entertainment, and brand partners have created some truly delightful blogs and racked up tens of millions notes on their posts,” the company said. Radar gets 120 million daily page views, according to Tumblr.
Tumblr’s 2012 revenue was about $13 million, according to an estimate from PrivCo, a firm that researches private companies. The company is not yet profitable, PrivCo said.
