Pinterest, Tumblr Drive More Website Traffic Than Twitter, Says StatCounter [STATS] Both Pinterest and Tumblr have driven more referral traffic to websites than Twitter in the first six months of 2014, with Twitter a distant fourth behind these two social platforms and the all-powerful Facebook, reveals data from StatCounter. 2. American Airlines Responds to 80% of Customer Tweets Within 15 Minutes [STUDY] The major airlines adapted to Twitter perhaps as quickly as any other industry vertical, rapidly recognising its usefulness as a medium to deliver flight information, provide updates and respond to customer support enquiries. Indeed, it’s this latter area where American Airlines has particularly excelled, with their @AmericanAir profile responding to 99 percent of customer queries on Twitter within one hour, and 80 percent in just 15 minutes. 3. 8 Tweets That Generate Engagement [INFOGRAPHIC] How to you get more engagement on Twitter? Start by sharing better content – make sure you credit the author and use an appropriate hashtag. Offer help or solutions to problems, and ask questions of your followers. 4. Changes Are Coming To Twitter’s Direct Messages Good news for those who have been pulling their hair out over Twitter’s clunky Direct Message system: the company has announced that it’s revamping the way you send your private messages. 5. 55% of Couples Used a Hashtag During Their #Wedding [INFOGRAPHIC] One of the biggest trends in social media is the hashtagification of everything. And I mean everything. Of course, the use of hashtags on Twitter (and, later, Instagram and Facebook) is now absolutely the norm, with millions being shared each and every day. That volume quickly bled into “real world” usage as marketers looked to capitalise on all those social eyeballs, with hashtags very much par for the course on television shows, movie trailers and commercials. And now: weddings. 6. 35 Must-Have Content Marketing Tools [INFOGRAPHIC] Brands around the globe continue to place a strong focus on content marketing with 74 percent spending more on this strategy in 2014, and four in 10 making it their primary focus. 7. Family Asked to Leave Southwest Flight After Tweeting Complaint During Boarding A Minneapolis man and his two children were asked to leave a Southwest Airlines flight because of a complaint tweeted during the boarding process. 9. Facebook: 23% of all Social Traffic in June (Pinterest Dips, Twitter Flat at 1%) [STATS] Facebook’s slice of the social referral traffic pie got a little bit bigger last month, with the giant now accounting for almost one quarter of all social website visits, reports Shareaholic. 10. More Than 7 in 10 Twitter, Pinterest Shares Are Now Done Via a Mobile Device [STUDY] The vast majority of all Twitter and Pinterest social sharing is now done via a mobile device – compared to slightly more than half of Facebook sharing – reveals a new study from ShareThis.
