A College Sports Twitter Handle Trade: Syracuse And Stanford
In a NCAA first, Stanford traded its old Twitter handle, @SUAthletics, to Syracuse on Monday.
Stanford Athletics is now tweeting from @GoStanford, and Syracuse University Athletics from @SUAthletics.
In a statement, Bernard Muir, Director of Athletics at Stanford, said,
“Obviously we’re thrilled to activate @GoStanford as our official Twitter handle and pull off this dynamic trade. From a branding standpoint, this trade makes sense for both schools. We held both accounts – the social media equivalent to having two starting quarterbacks, and we wanted to derive as much value as possible.
