The relationship between teenagers and their social media use has been an oft-discussed topic, and Microsoft research analyst and author of It’s Complicated: The Social Lives of Networked Teens Danah Boyd has made it her personal mission to explain the social media behaviors of young people.

Educated at New York University and Harvard Berkman Center, Boyd’s quest to peg social media practices and habits of teens started with Friendster in 2003, she said in a SXSW talk Saturday, March 8.
