Facebook said in an email to SocialTimes that 60 million users generated some 200 million posts, comments and likes during Sunday night’s big game, marking the second-highest Super Bowl interactions total on the social network, and trailing only Super Bowl XLIX last year.
The top three players in terms of Facebook discussion during the game were:
- Manning: 10 million users, 19 million interactions.
- Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton: 5 million users, 8 million interactions.
- Broncos linebacker Von Miller (who was voted the game’s most valuable player): 1.8 million users, 2.7 million interactions.
The top five social moments on Facebook during Super Bowl 50 were:
- Beyoncé, Coldplay and Bruno Mars bring the halftime show to a rousing conclusion.
- The final whistle of the Broncos’ 24-10 victory over the Panthers.
- Lady Gaga performs a stirring National Anthem.
- Panthers defensive end Kony Ealy sacks Manning early in the fourth quarter and recovers the fumble he caused, giving his club some hope down 16-7.
As for the halftime show performers:
- Coldplay: 6 million users, 9.3 million interactions.
- Beyoncé: 5.2 million users, 8.8 million interactions.
- Bruno Mars: 3.8 million users, 5.3 million interactions.
Finally, the social network provided the graphic below illustrating activity at key points during the game.
Twitter said in a blog post that its three most-tweeted-about moments during Super Bowl 50 were:
- The end of the halftime show.
- Miller’s sack of Newton, causing a fumble that was recovered for a touchdown by Broncos defensive end Malik Jackson, giving Denver a 10-0 lead.
- The final whistle.
The most-tweeted about Broncos were Manning, Miller and defensive back Aqib Talib, while the top three from Carolina were Newton, Ealy and wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr.

Finally, Twitter provided this interactive map, displaying how each moment Sunday night was reflected in activity on its network.
Amobee Brand Intelligence reported that 13,646,133 tweets directly mentioned Super Bowl 50 between 6:30 p.m. ET Sunday and 6:30 a.m. Monday.
According to Amobee, even though Coldplay was billed as the headliner of the halftime show, Beyoncé ruled Twitter with 1,160,766 tweets during that time period, followed by Coldplay with 925,029 and Bruno Mars with 365,355.
Instagram said in an email to SocialTimes that 38 million users were responsible for 155 million interactions related to Super Bowl 50.

- #Beyonce: 9,300.
- #CamNewton: 8,000.
- #PeytonManning: 6,000.
- #Fashion: 5,500.

Chute also found that Instagram users posting photos with the #Superbowl hashtag were:
- Three times more interested in dogs, wine and health.
- Four times more likely to be a “foodie.”
- Two times more likely to be married and/or a parent.
- Most likely to have affinities with TV networks Bravo (three times), HGTV (three times) and TLC (two times).
- Most likely to have affinities with brands Nordstrom (three times), DVF (three times) and Anthropology (three times).
- Most likely to have affinities with publishers NBC (1.1 times), ABC (1.08 times) and ESPN (1.05 times).
The Kardashians surprisingly proved to be popular with fans of both teams.
Chute found that Broncos fans were most likely to have affinities for:
- Khloe Kardashian: 1.55 times.
- Kourtney Kardashian: 1.49 times.
- Kylie Jenner: 1.37 times.
- Kim Kardashian: 1.34 times.
- The Kardashians and Jenners: 1.21 times.
- Kendall Jenner: 1.14 times.
And for Panthers fans:
- Khloe Kardashian: 1.64 times.
- Kourtney Kardashian: 1.54 times.
- Kylie Jenner: 1.53 times.
- Kim Kardashian: 1.51 times.
- The Kardashians and Jenners: 1.26 times.
- Kendall Jenner: 1.14 times.
Finally, social media monitoring and analysis platform Synthesio examined overall social conversations to come up with some tasty tidbits.
According to Synthesio, the most-discussed snacks, based on share of all online conversations, were:
- Nachos: 37.1 percent.
- Chips: 10.6 percent.
- Dip: 10.4 percent.
- Chili: 7.9 percent.
- Nuts: 5.2 percent.
The most-discussed types of pizza were:
- Cheese: 2.9 percent.
- Veggie: 2.3 percent.
- Meat: 1.9 percent.
- Pepperoni: 0.5 percent.
The most-discussed meats were:
- Hot dogs: 19 percent.
- Ribs: 14 percent.
- Bacon: 11.1 percent.
- Sausage: 9.2 percent.
- Ham: 5.8 percent.
The most-discussed types of chicken wings were:
- Buffalo: 11.6 percent.
- Barbecue: 2.3 percent.
- Spicy: 0.7 percent.
- Sweet: 0.1 percent.
The most-discussed beers were:
- Budweiser: 80.8 percent.
- Bud Light: 9.9 percent.
- Corona Extra: 3.6 percent.
- Busch: 1.8 percent.
- Heineken: 1.2 percent.
Synthesio found that 55 percent of conversations about snacks and 73 percent about beer were initiated by men, with women accounting for 45 percent and 27 percent, respectively.
