If you’ve headed over to StumbleUpon this morning then you may have noticed that it looks a little different. They’ve traded in the old blue and green logo for a sleek new orange one and that’s only the beginning. The whole site has been given a much more engaging look and new changes make Stumbling easier than ever.
StumbleUpon now has over 20 million users and the redesign aims to make stumbling easier for these users. MediaPost reports that the changes are based upon user feedback and testing over the past year. Garrett Camp, the CEO and co-founder of StumbleUpon, says, “We wanted to make it simpler and more in line with how people actually ‘stumble.’”
So what has changed? Aside from the shiny new logo, the StumbleUpon home page has a new photo-centric look that lets users easily click to browse their favorite topics or search for literally any topic in the ‘Explore an interest’ box above and stumble through related content. Previously, users were restricted to about 500 broad subject areas. Now you can use more specific keywords and search for hundreds of thousands of topics.
StumbleUpon has also launched a catalog of channels, which can be found under the ‘Discover’ tab. The channels are curated by specific sites, people and brands including CNN, Epicurious, DETAILS Magazine, Break.com and more and StumbleUpon will recommend channels that they think you would like, based on content that you have stumbled in the past.
Mark Walsh of MediaPost explains that, “The idea is to create some equivalent of brand pages on Facebook or company pages on LinkedIn.” VP of Marketing and Business Development at StumbleUpon, Marc Leibowitz, explains, “We’re allowing people, sites and brands to automate the process of getting content into the StumbleUpon process.”
StumbleUpon user profile pages have also been upgraded, and the StumbleUpon tool bar has a new look as well. Check out the new site for yourself at StumbleUpon.com and let us know what you think!
