But few know the story behind this infamous cat. Where did he come from and how did he get so popular? A new mini-documentary from VICE reveals the amusing tale behind the meme.

Brad O’Farrell posted the first Keyboard Cat video in 2007, but the history of the meme goes back much further than that to 1985, when zany artist Charlie Schmidt (who, as a side note, has a nose that he can move like an elephant…seriously!) created the original video.
