Here’s How to Stop #Twitter Tracking Your Apps

Yesterday we reported that Twitter is now tracking the other apps installed on your iOS and Android devices. Called App Graph, the update will track applications installed on the same device as the official Twitter app, but won’t collect any data from the apps themselves.

The tracking is opt-out, meaning you will need to take action if you don’t want Twitter snooping on your stuff so it can show you more tailored ads.

Here’s how to do it:

iOS

1. Open the Twitter for iPhone app

2. click on the Me tab and then tap the gear icon, choosing “Settings”

3. Choose the account you want to edit

4. Scroll down to the Privacy section, and turn off the setting next to “Tailor Twitter based on my apps”

Android

1. Open the Twitter for Android app

2. Click the overflow icon and select “Settings”

3. Choose the account you want to edit

4. Under Other, turn off “Tailor Twitter based on my apps”

Note: if you don’t see the “Tailor Twitter based on my apps” in your settings then App Graph is not currently installed in your Twitter app, and will likely appear with the next update.
