Starbucks Earns Instagram Bragging Rights

What brands do you Instagram?  Do you snap pictures of your favorite foods?  Your favorite stores?  How about your morning coffee?  According to GazeMetrix, an early stage image-recognition startup, helps brands track where their logos are being photographed across social media, Starbucks earns bragging rights for bring the most-Instagrammed brand that the company tracks.

GazeMetrix serves as a means of giving brands an idea of how their logos are representing them across the social web, as well as giving them an opportunity to contact fans who have posted branded photos and request permission to publish them.  According to a company profile on AdAge, “Of the 25 brands GazeMetrix is tracking, Starbucks is tops in terms of the volume of photos featuring its logo.  Runners-up are Coca-Cola, BMW, Monster Energy, Google and Corona.”

The Starbucks brand is pretty active on Instagram itself, with over 1 million followers and tens of thousands of likes per photo posted.  But fans are just as active on Instagram, posting photos of their frappuccinos, cappuccinos, macchiatos and soy chai lattes.  A search for “Starbucks” on Instagram search tool Statigram shows over 3.6 billion results.

GazeMetrix is adding Facebook and Twitter functionality as well, so it will be interesting to see how Starbucks and other brands fare on those social sites, in terms of brand photography.  Have you been guilty of Instagramming the Starbucks logo?
