Small business owners surveyed by office-products giant Staples would rather have large Facebook fan communities than celebrity endorsements, or even Super Bowl ads.
Staples also found that:
- 53 percent of small business owners are either novices or have not considered how social media can help their businesses.
- 40 percent feel that social media use has helped their businesses.
- 61 percent use at least one social network.
- Engaging customers, at 50 percent, was the most frequently mentioned goal for social media usage, followed by increasing sales (46 percent), and creating brand awareness (44 percent).
