Comcast Sports Group will team up with Sporting News to produce regional editions of daily online magazine Sporting News Today in the regions covered by its Comcast SportsNet regional sports networks, starting with parent Comcast’s home base of Philadelphia.
The local editions will include 8-20 pages of news, analysis, scores, and stats geared toward each market, including a customized cover, along with all of the content from the national edition, and they will be branded Sporting News Today, Powered by Comcast SportsNet.
Regional editions will begin rolling out in early 2011, and monthly subscriptions will cost $3.99, compared with $2.99 for the national edition. The regional editions will be available on all platforms: Mac, PC, iPhone, and iPad. Comcast Sports Group will handle ad sales for the local pages, while Sporting News will continue managing them for the national pages.
In addition to Philadelphia, Comcast Sports Group also operates Comcast SportsNet regional channels in Baltimore, the San Francisco Bay area, California, Chicago, New England, New York, the Northwest region, The Mtn. (covering the Mountain West Conference), and Washington, D.C.
