Facebook was among a plethora of companies to participate in Spirit Day Thursday, aimed at encouraging people to wear purple and stand up against bullying.

The social network encouraged its employees to wear purple and post staff photos, and the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) noted that Facebook has participated in Spirit Day since 2010, and highlighted their combined efforts to remove hateful comments and images from a memorial Facebook page in 2010, as well as the GLAAD Media Award the social network received in 2012.

All 30 Major League Baseball teams added purple to their logos on their Facebook pages, and the National Basketball Association and National Hockey League expressed their support for Spirit Day on the social network, as well.

For more on Spirit Day efforts, please see this post on the GLAAD blog.
