Sony Reaches Out To Instagram Shutterbugs In Facebook Contest

By Justin Lafferty

Now that Instagram is officially part of Facebook, Sony is reaching out to mobile photographers for a cool contest based on the social network. Inspired by celebrities, the company wants to see what kind of creativity users can unleash through their Instagram photos. Participants can win Sony’s newest Xperia Ion smartphone or a trip to see Maroon 5 live in concert.

Users can connect with the contest by visiting Sony Mobile’s U.S. or Canada Facebook fan pages. Sony has four different challenges, based on four celebrities.

Currently, Instagram and Facebook users are being tested by The Glamourai, also known as Kelly Framel, a fashion stylist. She is challenging Internet photographers to take an Instagram picture of their favorite Fashion Week-inspired outfit. Submissions are shown through the Facebook application, and users can vote for the winner.

Future challenges will come courtesy of professional photographer Theron Humphrey, Olympic gold medal softball pitcher Jennie Finch, and American Indie rockers Freelance Whales.

Users are asked to take a photo and upload it to their Instagram feed, with the hashtag #XperiaPhotoJam. Then people can vote for their favorite submissions each week, sharing their photos on Facebook and Instagram.

Weekly contests will continue on Sept. 21, Sept. 28, and Oct. 5.
