Sega of America has announced the long-awaited release of Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing on Android devices. The game was first released on mobile via iOS way back in 2011, and sees the famous blue hedgehog joining a group of other Sega characters for some Mario Kart-inspired kart-racing fun.

Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing includes 16 different courses which can be tackled in multiple game modes: Grand Prix Cups, battle mode, or mission mode. The game features 13 characters, including Sonic, Aiai, Dr. Eggman, Tails, and Amigo, with each having special abilities and All-Star moves. These moves give a momentary boost of power and speed to the player, allowing them to quickly blast to the front of the field, or close to it.

The game supports 4-player multiplayer races with up to three online friends, while the mission mode offers 25 goals for players to complete. Progress is tracked on the in-game leaderboard, so there’s always something to push for (unless you’re at the top of the leaderboard, of course).

Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing was previously released on Xbox Live Arcade, PC, PS3, and Nintendo’s Wii and DS platforms. The game’s iOS and Android release continues the growing trend of console developers re-releasing their games on mobile devices, as mobile technology continues to grow and support such robust games.

Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing is now available to download on Android for $1.99. You can check out our full review of the iOS version right here.
