Someone Paid $461,000 for Gold Earbuds Designed by Apple's Jony Ive

Apple’s Jony Ive and Marc Newsome along with Bono managed to raise nearly $13 million in curated and designed goods at the 2013 Red Auction – a benefit event for the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria.

Among the items sold was this nearly tawdry Rose Gold Earbud earphones that sold for $461K – way over its estimated value of $20K-$50K. The highest priced item was a special desk made of anodised aluminum which sold for $1,685,000 and a Red Mac Pro for $977,000.
