YouTube Access Restored in Turkey After Two-Month Blockade (CNET) Turkish authorities said Tuesday that access to YouTube has been restored after a two-month ban on the video-sharing site. The move comes five days after the country's highest court ruled that blocking Google's video-sharing site violates freedom of expression. USA Today Turkish news reports said that the court's decision was delivered to the country's telecommunications regulator Tuesday. YouTube became accessible later in the day. Mashable A YouTube spokesperson confirmed to Mashable that the site had been unblocked there. "We are glad that YouTube has been restored in Turkey following our successful appeal to the courts," the spokesperson said, "and that people and businesses can once again access and share information on YouTube." Reuters Blocks on access to YouTube and Twitter were imposed after illict audio recordings, purportedly revealing corruption in prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's inner circle, were leaked on the sites. The block on access to Twitter was lifted in April. VentureBeat YouTube, along with many other social media sites, was placed on a block list more than two months ago after leaked videos went up containing recordings of Turkish government officials plotting a potential war against neighboring country Syria. The block was made legal under new legislation pushed out from Erdogan. Last week, however, Turkey’s high court ruled that the legislation used to block YouTube was unconstitutional and in violation of the country’s freedom of speech laws.
