Gmail 2.0 for iOS Brings New Look, Support for Multiple Accounts (AllThingsD) Google has unveiled an updated version of its Gmail app for the iPhone and iPad, promising a “faster, sleeker and easier” email experience on iOS devices. One of the biggest features of Gmail 2.0 is added support of multiple accounts. GigaOM With the update, users can easily switch among up to five accounts within the app. It’s also now employing autocomplete, in both the search function and with contact names. Wired The reboot brings push delivery and improved notifications, and the ability to see pictures in messages, attach multiple files to an email and scroll infinitely though your mailboxes. CNET Nearly three months after its debut on the iPhone and iPod Touch, Google has updated its standalone YouTube app for the first time, adding compatibility for the iPad and iPhone 5. As part of an update Tuesday, the app is now universal and works on the three screen sizes. Facebook Simplifies Process for Creating Repeat Events (Inside Facebook) Facebook introduced a new feature for events this week that allows users to quickly create a similar event as one they previously hosted or attended. When a user clicks “create repeat event” from a drop-down menu on most event pages, Facebook will automatically populate a new event dialog with details from the last event, including the invite list. Mashable Facebook Tuesday introduced a feature for its Messenger Android app that lets users log on with a name and phone number, rather than having to enter their account info. In practice, that means that you don’t have to have a Facebook account to use Messenger. AllFacebook The class-action lawsuit against Facebook over the use of users’ images in sponsored stories moved one step closer to resolution Monday, as U.S. District Court Judge Richard Seeborg ruled that Facebook’s proposed settlement meets the requirements for preliminary approval. The San Jose Mercury News reported that Seeborg said in his order that the settlement offer by the social network “has no obvious deficiencies” and “appears to be the product of serious” negotiations between lawyers for Facebook and the group of users who filed suit.
