SideCar, an app that allows users to arrange shared rides, will introduce surge pricing in San Francisco on New Year’s Eve to encourage more users to drive.

From 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, users in the San Francisco Bay Area will be prompted to pay “suggested donations” twice as large as they usually are.

The SideCar app does not require riders to pay drivers the suggested donation. In fact, drivers are prompted to review riders before any money changes hands.
