What’s Trending, the weekly web talk show about the hottest trends in web culture created by Shira Lazar and Damon Berger, launches a brand new season this morning/afternoon at 10 AM PT/1 PM ET, featuring Margaret Cho, Attack of the Show’s Kevin Pereira, Missi Pyle from The Artist and a performance from musician John West. Shira Lazar told me via email a little bit about what fans can expect from the upcoming season of What’s Trending. Read on to find out what she had to say.
I asked Shira if they’ve made any changes to the show’s format and what we can expect from the coming episodes. She told me, “We’re constantly changing things and figuring out new and innovative ways to connect with our audience. We have made a few changes to the format.” They’ll be making their ‘Like or Dislike’ segment a more interactive experience, as well as adding a ‘What’s Trending/Movies’ segment where they’ll take a look at box office numbers and how they compare to social media buzz with the help of Simply Measured. They’ll also be changing things up, adding new segments and experimenting to see what works as the season progresses.
Additionally, Shira tells me, “We’ve added a new member to the on-air team—Marc Hustvedt, the co-founder of web TV news site Tubefilter and now of Chill.com. He understands Internet culture and digital trends. We’re excited to have him join me on the couch to add to the conversation, and bring comments and questions from our audience in real-time.”
Curious about what you can expect from this season in terms of celebrity guests and other cool stuff? Shira tells me, “As was the case in season one, we’ll be bringing you the biggest online influencers and digitally connected celebrities to talk about the trends you care about.” In addition to the stars on today’s premiere, she tells me, “We’ll have the RZA, creator of The Walking Dead Robert Kirkman, Chris Hardwick and many others. We’ll also be taking the show on the road doing interviews at SXSW.”
Additionally, What’s Trending will be launching a mobile app for fans. Shira explains, “We’ve partnered with Mobile Roadie, the company behind the apps of everyone from Taylor Swift to Foo Fighters. You’ll have access to our blog, social streams, video archive and be able to watch the livestream and chat through the app. There’s also a feature that reminds you when we’re live, which is helpful to connect with audiences through the noise of their day to day lives.” The app should be available by the end of the month.
