Syfy network’s social media sensation Sharknado, a ridiculous made-for-TV movie about a tornado of sharks that rains on Los Angeles, is making the leap from small screen to big.
Sharknado will be shown at select movie theaters on August 2 at 12:05 a.m. local time.
The made-for-TV film, which premiered on Syfy on July 11 with 318,232 tweets during the broadcast at a peak of 5,000 tweets per minute, is further capitalizing on its Twitterific success by creating a Sharknado sequel, set for a July 2014 release. Twitter users are even getting the opportunity to name it.
The Sharknado sensation is yet another example of the collective power of Twitter not only online, but in the real world as well.
