Microsoft will soon be replacing Windows Live Messenger with Skype, according to a report by The Verge. The company is expected to retire the instant messaging service and integrate it into Skype in the next few months.

This change would follow Microsoft’s integration of Hotmail into Outlook and the update of its Skype app for Windows 8 that keeps calls and messages coming even when the app isn’t running.

Skype has already been linking Microsoft accounts to Skype login names.
