Interestingly, no single web 2.0/social networking site have dominated the tech news scene this week. Yes, there was some occasional coverage about the regular biggies such as Facebook and Twitter. But those were minor news not enough to get the industry buzz. So for a change, our weekly blog highlights would have several social networking tidbits besides Facebook and Twitter.The week started off with Netflix joining the Facebook Connect bandwagon when it announced that Netflix can now share their movie ratings to their Facebook friends using Facebook connect. Then there was Jennifer Aniston breaking up with John Mayer because he was obsessed with Twitter. Makes you think whether she broke up with Brad because he was a what? Addicted to Facebook? Another Twitter-related news was about Exec Tweet which is a Microsoft-backed service which compiles the Tweets of Tech Executives into one timeline. Sounds interesting but some say that this is not the revenue model that Twitter should focus on. An interesting demographics regarding social networking usage also popped out of the blogging news when a survey made by Accenture revealed that more and more Baby Boomers are joining the social networking population. In fact, they have surpassed the growth of Gen Y users whose growth has seemed to have reached a plateau. The most interesting news bit that is related to Facebook was Face.com with their Facebook application called photo finder. This application utilizes facial recognition technology to tag photos of Facebook users. Later during the week, WSJ run an interesting story about the heating up ebook market. Of course this was an offshoot of the Amazon Kindle buzz, the Sony eBook Reader tie-up with some book publishers which will put some great collection of ebook titles on Sony's eBook Reader. Plus some new ebook readers being released as a direct competitor to the Kindle. Google, particularly Gmail also had it's share of the news buzz this week when a nice little feature was released through the Gmail Labs. This feature allows users to undo a sent email message provided that the undo button is clicked within five seconds. Another Google-related news that made this week exciting was the iGoogle themes that were made available. What's so exciting about these themes is the fact that they are inspired by video games. You can now use some cool themes on your iGoogle page. These themes include video game characters such as Zelda, Mario, Lara Croft, Megaman and more. That's it, the week in social networking/social media land. It's going to be another exciting week up ahead for all of us.
