RateMyProfessors.com teamed up with Chegg.com on a service aimed at helping college students to save money: The two companies will allow students to rent textbooks directly through RateMyProfessors.com, offering access to more than 2.4 million college textbooks to students at more than 6,400 colleges and universities in the United States.
The Chegg.com search, order and return functionality will be built directly into RateMyProfessors.com’s site, allowing students to search for textbooks by ISBN number, author, title or keyword and receive responses including rental price, rental term, due date and detailed information about the book.
MTV Networks’ college cable network and Website, mtvU, operates RateMyProfessors.com, which boasts a database of more than 1 million professors at 6,000 schools. Once the integration is complete, students will be able to view the necessary books for the courses directly on the professors’ pages.
Chegg.com launched in 2007, and the site has saved students more than $78 million.
MTVN senior vice president of strategic development and digital TV networks Chris McCarthy said:
The high cost of college textbooks is an issue that many students have struggled with for years, and mtvU is very happy to partner with Chegg.com to help students find an economical alternative. Each semester, millions of students seek out RateMyProfessors.com to navigate their class schedules. Now they can use the same site to save time and, more important, money while selecting their textbooks.
Chegg.com co-founder and senior VP of operations Aayush Phumbhra added:
Our partnership with mtvU’s RateMyProfessor represents another avenue in our mission to save students money through textbook rentals. Combining the textbook-rental service of Chegg.com with RateMyProfessors.com presents a powerful one-two punch that will not only help students save money, but help them find the highest-rated teachers at their school.
