Rachel Sterne: New York City's First Chief Digital Officer

New York City named its first-ever chief digital officer: Rachel Sterne, founder of citizen news site GroundReport and digital strategy firm Upward Strategy, CNET reported.

Sterne will leave both companies to take on her new role, in which she will be tasked with aiding the city government with its use of digital technology to communicate with residents, as well as bringing social media and other tools to municipal agencies, negotiating partnerships, and serving as a representative of the technology community to the government, according to CNET, which added that one of her first missions will likely be an overhaul of NYC.gov
