Quick Tips For The Smartphone User

During this past week I accumulated a few tips to share with Windows Phone 7, Android, and Evernote users. Each don't warrant an individual post, so I am going to share them here in this grab bag post. The first two tips are for Windows Phone 7 users. If you want to change the picture used for the background of the Windows Phone 7 Pictures hub, which is the same picture used for the Pictures live tile, do the following. Open the Pictures hub, then tap and hold on the screen to open a menu that contains change background and change it for me. If you want to select a picture, tap change background, and if you want a randomly selected picture tap change it for me. The Windows Phone 7 keyboard includes a button with a smilely face, which you can tap to open a menu of emoticons. Tap the arrow shown in the screenshot to the right to display more emoticon options. If you have been following my posts on this blog, you know that I am a big fan of Evernote, which is the app I use to store all of my electronic information. There are a few notes that I frequently open, and it would be really handy to have those notes always appear at the top of list of the notebook in which they stored. Cybernet News has a great tip that forces notes to always appear at the top by changing the created date to a date in the future. If you use the Evernote app for Android you will need to be sure that the sort order in Display Options is Date Created in order for the tip to work. Finally, in May Google will be hosting their annual Google I/O developers conference, during which they typically reveal new features in Android. Often they demonstrate versions of Android under development. It is possible that Google will announce their new music service at the conference this year, and I expect they will show a number of things relating to Android 3.0. The conference sold out in 59 minutes, so many people who wanted to attend are not able to, and so Google has decided to stream the keynotes and several of the seasons on their web site.
