City of Wonder follows the now well-worn city building genre, but the game’s closest cousin may be Civilization, given the liberal use of technology trees, Wonders of the World and other Civ-like features. The comparison may become even more interesting if Sid Meier ever gets around to releasing a Facebook version of his game, which was announced almost a year ago.
As for Market Street, the retail sim’s growth is slowing as it nears 10 million MAU. But at this point, the 10 million mark is one that few developers reach with their games, excepting Zynga. It should be interesting to see if City of Wonder can reach follow in Market Street’s footsteps over the coming weeks.
Car Town, the next app down, is from a smaller developer that’s fairly new to Facebook, Cie Games. But it’s getting support from much bigger brands — namely, the car companies whose vehicles are shown in the game. Honda, for instance, just started a virtual billboard campaign, while other manufacturers have allowed their names and marks to be used.
Nightclub City and Millionaire City are both somewhat older games that nevetheless continue to grow. The top ten is rounded out by three more that are newer: Zapapa games, Tattoo City and Armies. All three are worth a look, but in short, they’re respectively a game portal, tattoo shop sim, and war RPG.
