Are you sick and tired of hearing about planking? If so, you’re not alone. I mean, seriously…people lying facedown in bizarre locales is only funny for so long. The bad news is, the planking fad doesn’t seem to be going anywhere fast. But the good news is, there are some alternatives. Don’t feel like planking? Why not try owling or leisure diving on for size?
Yesterday morning on Twitter a friend brought leisure diving to my attention. Leisure Diving is defined on LeisureDive.com as “a jump into a body of water (or at least something soft), striking a leisure pose’ in mid-air. Ideally, a photographer captures the moment when the diver has reached peak height above water, when his or her hips are parallel to the waterline. If successful, the result is an airborn Corona commercial you can post to your preferred social networking platform, or mantle, if you’re old school.”
How exactly do you strike a leisure pose? Well, according to LeisureDive.com the leisure pose consists of one raised elbow and a killer leisure face. It also looks pretty great if you can get one knee up, like the guy on the right in the image above. LeisureDive.com also suggests holding “an item that indicates leisurely attitude (in your non-raised elbow hand).” They suggest a Red Stripe, White Russian, James Patterson novel or Croquet mallet (if you can get your hands on one.) Tennis anyone?
You can share your own Leisure Diving photos in the Leisure Dive group on Facebook.
“Owling is the new planking!!!!!” At least, it is according to a new Facebook group called Owling, which features submitted pictures of people perching like owls atop everything from banisters to basketball hoops to trucks to pigs. People are even owling on plankers and one guy even perched like an owl next to his hospital bed! In the comments, the guy in the picture jokes that he was in the hospital because he “planked to far.”
Even celebs are getting in on the owling action. Click here to see a picture of Hillary Duff owling away. She tweeted the picture out over the weekend, saying “Didn’t wanna hit carmageddon so I’m just owling all weekend!”
What’s your take on owling and leisure diving and how do you think they stack up to planking? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below!
