Pinterest has become one of the largest social networks in the world. Its simple premise and user experience have kept users flocking to the site to get their fix of fashion, art, wallpaper, inspirational quotes and more. Up to this point, Pinterest has been more or less a web-based phenomenon, with little attention paid to the mobile side of things. However, that may change as a recent report shows that Pinterest may be debuting for Android this week at Google IO.
The Australian Android snipers at Ausdroid first reported the rumor based on some deep analysis of the Google IO app for people attending the show. The app shows upcoming events, and you can see in the image below that it says that a Pinterest app is “now available for Android,” hinting that the speakers will be launching this app during their presentation.
It would obviously be the perfect place to launch the service, and I expect this rumor to turn out true. It’d be great to be able to browse various pin boards on my mobile phone and tablet, and there’s no reason to shut Google users out. I imagine the app may look something similar to the recently released Tumblr app for iOS, but that’s speculation.
