After adding price tags and description to pins, Pinterest will now let its members bookmark an item they want to buy, but can’t quite afford, and receive an email alert when the price goes down.
Pinterest can set up alerts for products like home goods, clothing, and electronics. From the sound of it, it’s similar to the price alerts that discount flight aggregators use to help people plan trips in advance.
Pinterest said that all of the discounts will be lumped into as few emails as possible.
After rolling out the new pin format to a few retailers in May, Pinterest said that the companies and their shoppers have placed tens of millions of product pins on the network that include the company’s logo, a brief description of the item, and the price.
Early results show that product pins have higher click-through rate than regular pins, Pinterest said. Merchants can sign up through the developer site.
