Pinterest Guide: How to Pin Images from your iPhone

Pinterest is simply addictive and the numbers support the fever. This February, Pinterest saw 16.23 million unique visitors alone. The masses are constantly pinning and repinning and at this point 80 percent of pins are repins. Much of the traffic on Pinterest is via the Pinterest mobile app, which easily allows for repinning of content already added to the Pinterest ecosystem. However, pinning your own original content or content you find on a website is a bit more difficult on the mobile interface. Here’s how to both upload your own pins and pin content from the web using the Bookmarklet for your iPhone. Pinning Images Taken or Saved on your iPhone Whether you’ve taken your own photos on the iPhone using the standard Camera app, Instagram or the plethora of other photo apps, it’s fairly easy to pin these original images to your Pinterest boards. Simply visit the home screen of the Pinterest app, click the button with camera icon. You’ll then be taken to this screen where you’ll be able to take a photo right then and there by clicking the button with the camera icon again. You can decide to save this photo for pinning or try taking a photo again. If you have existing photos saved to your phone, click the button on the right with the icon of two squares to access these images. Pin photos you’ve previously taken, photos from your friends or even images you’ve downloaded from the web to your phone. The easiest way to pin photos you’ve found on the web is to save them to your phone and pin them as we just explained above. Browse the web using the Safari app and discover images that suit your tastes. Once you find a suitable image, make sure the photo is full size and then press tap on the photo to get the menu above to pop up. This way you can save the image to your iPhone and then pin it from the Pinterest application at your leisure. Pinning Images Using the Pinterest Bookmarklet The Pinterest application for the iPhone doesn’t currently have a built in method of grabbing images from your favorite websites like the version of Pinterest on your computer does. Therefore, the Pinterest Bookmarklet is a handy way to pin images from the mobile web with the Pinterest application. Just keep in mind that saving images for pinning to your iPhone, like discussed above, is probably the easiest way to create your own pins. To effectively use the Pinterest Bookmarklet without having to save images to your iPhone, visit your profile on the Pinterest application. Click the account button at the top of the screen to view the popup menu to install the Bookmarklet. Now you’ll be taken to the instructions for adding the Bookmarklet to your phone’s browser. Another note, that Pinterest itself suggests, is to add the Bookmarklet in Firefox or Safari on your computer, and then synchronize your iPhone or iPod with this new addition using iTunes because it’s much easier then the process i’m about to explain. Step 1: Bookmark the page Pinterest sent you after you pressed the Install Bookmarklet button. Bookmark the page by pressing the middle button at the bottom of the screen with the arrow icon. Step 2: Simply follow Pinterest’s instructions of tapping inside the box, tapping and holding for a bit, tap Select all, tap Copy and lastly tap Done. Step 3: Edit the bookmark by tapping the bookmark button in the toolbar, which is the button with the book icon. View the list of bookmarks in your browser, tap edit and then select Pin It. Tap the existing URL and delete it from the field. Tap and hold to paste the contents copied from the box in the last step. Save the changes by tapping Done. Step 4: Go to the bookmark lists and select Pin It to activate the Bookmarklet. Step 5: To begin pinning, simple browse the web, find a particular image and select Pin It from the list of bookmarks. Pinterest will pull up all the photos from the web page you’re on and allow you to begin pinning them to your boards after you select which images you had in mind.
