Social network Path became the latest application to lose access to Facebook’s find friends application-programming interface, prohibiting Path users from accessing their Facebook friends lists and sending them invites or follow suggestions.
Facebook confirmed the move to TechCrunch, saying that Path users can still login with Facebook and share posts to the social network, but a reason was not given for the disabling of the find friends API for the Path app.
TechCrunch speculated that an incident last week in which Path allegedly spammed users’ contacts was likely behind Facebook’s move, as the social network traditionally frowns upon such aggressive actions by apps on its platform.
Path joins a growing list of apps that have run afoul of Facebook and received similar punishments so far this year, including: free messaging application MessageMe in March; voice-messaging app Voxer in January; mobile Graph Search-like app Wonder, from Russian search engine Yandex, in January; and Twitter...
