New Media Index: Bloggers' Attention Divided Between Three Topics

There was a rare three-way tie atop the list of most-shared topics in news links from blogs — the Icelandic volcano, the April 10 plane crash that killed Polish President Lech Kaczynski, and President Barack Obama’s handling of the media at the nuclear summit — while Google ruled the Twitter list, and the most viewed news and politics video on YouTube was news footage from Russia Today shortly after the crash that claimed Kaczynski, according to the Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism’s New Media Index for the week of April 12-16.

The three-way tie in the blogosphere, each accounting for 13 percent of shared links, was followed by: a story in The Washington Post about children dying due to being left in the back seats of cars; and a Los Angeles Times piece about insurance companies still being able to hike their rates despite the recently passed health...
