Developer Playstudios has launched its inaugural game, social casino title myVegas, on Facebook.
myVegas is a combination of a resource management sim and gambling title with players playing slots and card games, as well as regular mini-games. Aside from soft currency, gambling unlocks “Build Tokens,” which allow players to construct resorts on a virtual Vegas Strip.
The game is notable because it marks casino giant MGM Resorts International entering the social games market by licensing its properties. As a result, Playstudios is able to leverage real-world MGM properties like The Mirage, Mandalay Bay and New York-New York for licensed in-game content and real world rewards like complimentary rooms at MGM hotels, free tickets to Vegas shows or allowing players to choose the music for a Bellagio fountain show.
Social casino games are popular right now with developers because they tend to have better user conversion and retention rates than social arcade titles. Both real world and online gambling establishments like Caesar’s Entertainment, IGT and bwin.party are some very big fish who’ve entered the proverbial pond over the past couple of years, but AppData shows the top social gambling game on Facebook is still Zynga’s Texas HoldEm Poker with 7 million daily active users, followed by Zynga Slingo with 2.2 million DAU and then Platika’s Slotomania – Slot Machines with 1.9 million DAU.
While the Facebook version of myVegas is out now, Playstudios told us back in May that iOS and Android versions of the game are planned for sometime in Q4 2012.
