Motorola Droid Froyo Update Only Allows USB Tethering: Anti-Apple Conspiracy Theory

There were reports weeks ago that the Android OS 2.2 (Froyo) update for the Motorola Droid would only provide USB tethering. Froyo’s WiFi hotspot tethering feature is not available. The stated reason is because of “hardware limitations” in the Droid. These hardware limitations have not been identified.

I’m glad that USB tethering was left in the Droid’s Froyo update, however. You can see that it can be turned on by a simple checkbox in Settings. Froyo’s USB Tethering help screen (see below) instructs you to visit Google’s Android help page for more information.

The conspiracy theorist in me was annoyed that I could not wirelessly tether my WiFi-only iPad to the Droid.
