Mobile Messaging Spending to Increase

A new study by market research firm Strategy Analytics says consumer spending on cell phone messaging will increase 15% from $65 billion in 2007 to $88 billion by 2012, according to MediaPost, with North America accounting for a quarter of that total.

Interestingly, according to Nielsen Mobile, 57% of U.S. mobile subscribers—some 144 million—were data users in the first quarter of 2008, the report said: “Nielsen estimates that 14% of U.S. mobile subscribers have unlimited data plans, while 50% of data users would prefer to have such a package.”
